Hijackers:
On ECR's Crime watch this morning they mentioned women's cars
being pushed into, from the back, in Durban central, at robots.  
Then if she gets out her car, they are hijacked, as there is a car next
to the victim as well as behind.
I experienced this first hand Sunday at about 5.15pm.  I had
collected tickets from the ICC, and was coming up Pine Street to
get back on the highway.
I was at one of the many robots, looking around me as I felt rather
anxious.  A taxi on my left, another car on my right, and one about 3
metres behind me.

While the robot was still red, the one behind me starting coming
towards my car, and then bashed into me!  I heard this crunch, but
instinct told me not to react, even though I was worried about what
was going on.  I carried on looking into my rear view mirror, and the
two black men just carried on staring at me, obviously waiting for
me to get out of my car.  Once the robot changed I sped off and
looked behind to get a registration.  However, the car had no front
lights and no number plate.  There must have also been a
protection of some sorts on their car because my car was not at all
damaged!

A resident is thankful that Club road got tarred.

I would just like to say a BIG thank you to whoever was responsible
for re-tarring Club Road. Wow, what a wonderful experience to drive
on a properly tarred level road free of potholes and donga's !
I guess it's a sad reflection on how bad our roads are when one get
this excited about a decent road !!!

I am so thrilled that Club Road has been re-surfaced .... its so
smooth ... my car glides accross the valley without sound and I
hear my CD music perfectly, I have to pinch myself as I think I may
be dreaming.Is this true? Have we finally had a breakthrough? Is
e'Thekwini going to start caring for our suburb?

“Pump and Run”

A woman said her son found his license plate missing So he
called the police to file a report.  They told him People were stealing
the plates to get free gas.  Given The rise in gas prices, people
have taken to stealing License plates, putting them on their car,
then getting Gas and running.  The gas station will have "your"
License plate # and you could be in trouble for "pump And run."  
Check your car periodically to be sure you Still have a plate.  If you
should find it missing, file a Report immediately!!!  Keep an eye on
your license plate! Make sure you always know it's there!  When the
license Plate is reported as the "drive off vehicle," it's YOU they
Contact!  Be aware!!!!  Be aware of your license plates, Most of us
never look to see if the plates are there or not.

Armed robbery at a local restaurant.

There was an armed robbery at a local restaurant a few nights ago
at approx 21h30. Eight armed males entered the restaurant
robbing staff and customers. Nobody was seriously hurt. They also
stole the owner’s car, a blue Ford Focus sedan reg no. ND211-446.

Do not let these thugs intimidate you into locking yourselves away.
When the tube trains in London were bombed, the local people
immediately went back into the tubes to show the cowards that they
would not allow themselves to be intimidated. The SAPS will catch
these people and put them away.

Hylton of the Dunville road Neighberhood watch issued this
warning.

There is a gang going around targeting empty houses. They are
taking all the copper piping as well as the geysers! They look
around for houses that are empty, either because the owners are
on holiday or the home is between tenants etc. and then move in
and strip the place. There were two houses stripped on the Bluff
last week.

Get your neighbours and security company to keep an eye on your
house if it is going to be empty or put in a temporary tenant.

Edwin Swales: A resident is “Gatvol”

I am also a little "Gatvol" with regards to the trucks on Edwin
Swales.  We have already been deprived of access to the Bluff
through Bayhead and now there seem to be increased activity on
Edwin Swales and Bluff Road (residential side).  The queues going
into the first container depot after the off ramp from the freeway are
getting worse causing a backlog of traffic coming off the freeway to
go home.  

It is also very dangerous as cars are forced into one lane.  The
outside lane is jammed with cars and trucks turning to go on to the
south coast highway.  The inside lane is jammed with trucks going
into the container depot and the middle lane is full of irate drivers
trying to get home!!

The turn off to Makro is another story as you normally have a double
lane of trucks trying to squeeze down that narrow road or trying to
do a U-Turn to get a quicker route back on to the Southern Freeway
thus blocking the middle lane of Edwin Swales.  Then we get onto
the road works just past the Wimpy in front of Barron's!!  Now that
has been going on for ages!!  When is it going to end - there has
been no activity there for weeks.  Who do we contact to find out??

High food prices will cause crime to increase.

The ridiculously high increase in food prices is having an impact on crime. As people get to
the stage whereby they cannot afford food anymore they will turn to crime to feed their
families.

The price of even basic food stuffs have soared to such heights that the poor cannot afford
to eat the basic meals anymore. People will do what they have to survive and that is why
crime will carry on increasing. Who is to blame? Many factors but one thing is for sure, the
big companies are jumping on the bandwagon and using the petrol price increases and
other forces as an excuse to milk the public.

I think its time to expose these crooks that are placing massive profits on their products to
the detriment of the citizens. I think we must all become a little bit more aware of these con
artists and boycott their products or the supermarkets from where they are sold.

A Bluff resident’s car nearly gets stolen.

On Sunday night (8 June 2008) I was dropped off at home at 5:45pm after being away for
the weekend. About 4 minuets later my fathers car alarm went off (it was parked outside in
our driveway). My father and i immediately ran outside to see what was going on. As we
where approaching the gate we heard a car speed off down the road towards the church.
Unfortunately we did not see the car. They smashed the lock and i guess they where
startled by the alarm so they found a bag behind the seat and took it. There was nothing of
monetary value in the bag. It was some of my fathers work documents. We called Brighton
Beach Police Station and they where there within 10 mins. After that my father took a drive
down Baudry road and found some of his documents. They obviously saw that there was
nothing of value and just tossed stuff out the window. I hope Sormany Road/ Bluff
residents are becoming aware of the vast amount of crime occurring on our once safe and
peaceful streets.
