| GRAYS INN ROAD: SHODDY WORKMANSHIP TO BE RECTIFIED More than two years after a repair job on a washaway in Grays Inn Rd (some 50 metres below the Glenardle Rd intersection) was very poorly carried out, Metro Roads Dept official Ravi Hurbuns has agreed to a request by Bluff ward councillor Duncan Du Bois that action be taken to rectify it. ' Following the June 18 downpour, new cracks have appeared in what passes for the paving ,' says Cllr Du Bois. ' The original repair job looks as though it was carried out by amateurs. The sinkhole was not properly filled and secured. Instead a layer of tar was crudely slapped over a bed of loose stones and sand. No attempt was made to raise the level of the camber of the left lane and the pavement was left uneven and coarse. Many ratepayers have expressed outrage at the shoddy workmanship carried out.' ' It's just another example of work being provided on the basis of ideology instead of competence. Now that job has to be repeated at a further cost to the ratepayers. It is also an indictment of senior management supervison. The original contractors should never have been allowed to leave the site until the job was properly done,' said Cllr Du Bois. ********************************** |

| WHO DOES WILY WILLY GOVENDER THINK HE IS FOOLING ? Despite insisting that his connections with ANC officials in eThekwini Municipality have nothing to do with politics, one wonders who the wily boss of eValuations, Willy Govender, thinks he is fooling (The Mercury, July 9). What your reporter Matthew Savides fails to point out is that Willy Govender is not a property valuer. He is an IT consultant. This raises the question as to how he landed a multimillion Rand contract to conduct the largest property survey in Durban's history when he is not qualified in that field. Nobody who does business with this Metro should pretend that he is just doing it ' to grow and develop eThekwini' and that he does it all of his ' own accord,' as Govender claims. Such codswallop has the same ring of credibility as his claim that his contracts with other municipalities proves that his ' alleged connections with eThekwini Municipality counted for naught.' ******************************** |
